I am here right now.
Here is about 100 miles west of Tucumcari, NM on I-40. My son is driving and I am bored. Texas is supposed to start opening Friday, so we may even get to go out to dinner there.
Toby is chill and happy to be on the road.
All in all, I like long road trips. I used to drive I-40 a lot in college in the early 90s between LA and Colorado Springs, turning north on I-25. I also spent a couple of summers backpacking around the region out of a camp based in Thoreau, NM. So thos area has a lot of nostalgia to me, and this is my second round trip to Texas, as Toby and I did it in September.
You see interesting things at gas station gift shops. This awful Honda had California plates, demonstrating that in California, any hunk of shit can stay on the road as long as it passes smog.
We stopped at Ofelia’s Knife City in Arizona, where they have this cool derelict Ford Falcon outside. Ofelia made it clear to me that the government had no right to close her business, and I rewarded her by buying a multi-tool. Given the massive selection, it was a tough choice. But I liked the built in fire starting tools, so there it was.

Im in Burque and hate I40 on the two lane stretches trying to figure out how to handle the convoys is no fun! Im sure you are teaching your son freeway manners like my dad did me! Be safe!

How comfortable is the GTI during your road trip? I’ve only taken mile on 4 1/2 hours and thought it was quite good, seats didn’t leave me too sore.

The road trip was enough, but I am really surprised by how much envy I feel over the prospect of sitting down to eat in a restaurant right now. Honestly, at this point, I’d even be OK with Applebees.

Nice! I g ave my groomsmen each a L eatherman. The figherfigher and the hippy fisherman both got the Signal, the other 7 got a “Wave”. I keep a Squirt PS4 in my pocket always and have a wave that my mom gave me when I was little.
Ever read the story about the guy who invented the multi tool...He traveled around Europe with is wife in ...you guessed it ...a Fiat. Needed a do it all tool for the car...BOOM Letherman
